
With over two decades of experience in the medical field, Associate Professor David Cavallucci is a highly respected specialist in hepato-pancreatico-biliary (HPB) surgery and general surgery. Dr. Cavallucci's extensive training includes a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Queensland and a Masters of Biostatistics. He has completed prestigious fellowships in HPB oncology and abdominal organ transplantation at the University of Toronto and HPB surgery with the Australia New Zealand Hepato-Pancreatico-Biliary Association.
Currently, Dr. Cavallucci serves as a Visiting Medical Practitioner at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital and The Wesley Hsopital where he has been a dedicated specialist HPB surgeon since 2013. He is also an Associate Professor at the University of Queensland's School of Medicine, contributing significantly to medical education and research.
Dr. Cavallucci's clinical expertise includes minimally invasive pancreatic and liver resections and the establishment of one of Australia's first robotic pancreatic surgical programs. His translational research focuses on novel PET imaging ligands for pancreatic and liver cancer, and he collaborates on projects investigating the impact of environmental pollutants on liver and fat tissue.
As an active member and leader in various professional organizations, Dr. Cavallucci has served as President of the Australia Aotearoa New Zealand HPB Association and holds positions on numerous educational and editorial boards. His dedication to advancing the field of HPB surgery is evident through his ongoing research, numerous publications, and commitment to teaching the next generation of surgeons.
Outside of his clinical and academic roles, Dr. Cavallucci is passionate about community service. He has led volunteer surgical teams to Samoa, providing essential surgeries and training to the local medical community.
